THING 2 — Random fun fact: Nobody knows exactly how the Academy Awards came to be referred to as the Oscars, although there are several theories. The most frequently repeated story is that Margaret Herrick, the Academy’s first librarian, remarked that the statuette looked like her Uncle Oscar. The name stuck, and the Academy officially adopted it in 1939. Bette Davis has also received some credit, though her claim is more dubious.
