THING 2 — Random fun fact: Scotland (then called Caledonia) was one of the few countries able to hold off being conquered by the Romans in the first century A.D. In part this was because the region was considered too harsh and unrewarding, both geographically and economically. The Caledonian tribes were also known for being aggressive, independent, and fierce warriors who resisted Roman rule, and this in large part led to the Romans constructing the infamous Hadrian’s Wall.
