Hey there β happy Wednesday! π
Welcome to The Midweek Memo. I know your inbox is busy, so each issue will be short and snappy, a quick helpful email you can get through in a flash. π
Overthinking β let’s be real, it happens to the best of us. Stuck in a loop of “what ifs” and “should haves,” replaying conversations or decisions in our heads until they feel like unsolvable puzzles, turning small worries into big, tangled messes. Itβs like your mind is a hamster wheel, running in place while the rest of the world keeps moving.
The funny thing is, overthinking often starts with good intentions. We care about doing things right, making the best choices, or avoiding mistakes. But sometimes, our brains take that care and twist it into a habit of overanalyzing β like trying to solve a mystery that doesnβt even exist.
And the more we focus on the problem, the bigger it feels. It often steals our peace and can make even small choices feel huge. But overthinking rarely leads to clarity. Instead, it can leave us feeling drained, anxious, or stuck.
Here’s the good news: we can learn to gently steer our minds away from those endless loops, by recognizing when we’re trapped and finding little ways to break free. Think of it as giving your brain a much-needed mini-vacation.
βOne easy trick is to try a “5-second rule” for decisions: if it’s not truly life-altering, make a choice and move on. Another is to just acknowledge the thought, thank your brain for its thoroughness, and then consciously redirect your attention to something else.
Sometimes, itβs as simple as giving yourself permission to not have all the answers. Or setting a time limit for worry β like telling your brain, “Iβll think about this for 10 minutes, and then weβre done.” π§
Overthinking doesnβt mean youβre weak or unprepared; it just means youβre human. And like all habits, itβs one we can gently work on, one step at a time. After all, life’s too short to spend it tangled in your own thoughts.
Give it a try, and see what happens. π
That’s it for this time β let me know what you think, and have a great rest of the week! π
