The Midweek Memo #41

Hey there β€” happy Wednesday! πŸ˜„

Welcome to The Midweek Memo. I know your inbox is busy, so each issue will be short and snappy, a quick helpful email you can get through in a flash. πŸ˜‰

When it seems like there’s more work than there is time to do it (which is always, right?), it can be difficult to get past the overwhelm and feel productive. So here are 3 tips to help manage your time (and your sanity):

  1. Prioritize like a pro: Make a to-do list and prioritize tasks based on deadlines and importance. One of my favorite fun facts is that the word “priority” originally didn’t have a plural version. Until the 1940s, it was just the singular “priority” β€” ONE! There was no such a thing as having multiple priorities. The term was pluralized during the industrial revolution to manage multiple important competing tasks.

Many productivity experts argue that because “priority” means “first,” having multiple “priorities” is logically contradictory, as only one thing can be the top priority. Try to keep that in mind as you manage your to do list β€” run that list down, don’t let it run you.

  2. Set boundaries: It’s easy to get sucked into work when you’re an entrepreneur, but it’s important to set boundaries for yourself. Make it clear (to yourself) when your working hours are β€” but maybe even more important, stick to them! Don’t break your own rules β€” no working until midnight every night, no answering emails at 2am, okay?!

  3. Take breaks: Yes, it sounds counterintuitive, but taking breaks can actually make you MORE productive. Stepping away for just a few minutes can clear your head and be the reset you need to stay focused when you’re back at your desk. Take a walk, do some yoga, or watch a quick video or show. Whatever helps you relax and recharge. Just don’t watch too many cat videos or Netflix. That’s how you get trapped down the rabbit hole and off track.

I sent this 2-minute reset routine a week or two ago, but I’ll include it again as it’s really helpful for desk workers. I add shoulder rolls at the end, 5 forward and 5 backward, just to roll out some stiffness.

Try these suggestions, and see if you can get a better handle on your time (and, again, sanity). πŸ˜‰

That’s it for this time β€” let me know what you think, and have a great rest of the week! 😎
